Help welcome The Wall That Heals to Ellensburg by showing your respect by joining or standing along the procession route to Rotary Park as the Mobile Education Center comes into town. There will be a brief ceremony at Rotary Park acknowledging the presence of The Wall That Heals in Ellensburg.
For those wishing to participate in the escort:
Staging area for those participating in the escort is Lakeshore Way and Umptanum Road
Meeting point will be at Lakeshore Way / Umptanum Road starting at 12:30pm
There will be a safety briefing at 1:45 p.m. and the escort will depart promptly at 2:00 p.m.
Vietnam Veterans on motorcycles will lead the escort, followed by the Mobile Education Unit, followed by other Veterans on motorcycles and era-appropriate military vehicles
For those wishing to watch as The Wall That Heals is escorted into town:
The escort will exit Lakeshore Way and make a right on Umptanum Road and then a left heading north on Canyon Road / Main Street
This route will continue until Main & 5th Avenue, when it will make a left on 5th in front of the Kittitas County Courthouse
The route continues along 5th Avenue all the way to Rotary Park, where a brief welcome ceremony will be held.
Other Things to Note:
This is not a parade, but a respectful escort of the panels containing the 58,281 names inscribed on The Wall That Heals into Ellensburg.
We ask that if you’re watching the escort, please do not bring a chair unless absolutely required, and to stand respectfully, place your hand over your heart and remove your hat as the escort passes by.
Small American flags will be available at Johnston & Williams Funeral Home and other local downtown businesses along the escort route starting in late August.
